Hammock Types

In the past twenty five years, the hammock industry has exploded, it has become a multi-million dollar industry with over 20 hammock manufacturing companies in the US alone. As their popularity has increased so has the number of hammock types. Hammocks now come in all sizes, styles, colors, and fabrics, each offering comfort, convenience, and practicality.

Like all hammock types, indoor hammocks have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Indoor hammocks can be hung across your lounge from the walls or more conveniently hung from a stand and used instead of a sofa for lounging in and watching tv. As well as being used for relaxation many people have realised how comfortable hammocks are for sleeping in and are using them instead of a bed. This is hardly surprising as when hammocks were first developed they were primarily used for sleeping in rather than just for relaxing in.

One of the most popular hammock types is the rope hammock, these are usually made of cotton or a polypropylene mix and offer a classic look and feel. While they will not conform to your body because of the thick rope, they are very comfortable and are also generally more durable than other types of hammocks. When choosing a rope hammock, remember that the smaller the space between the ropes, the more comfortable it will be.

A variation on the hammock types theme is the hammock chair. These are usually suspended from a ceiling joist indoors or from a crossbeam on a patio. Like hammocks these are extremely comfortable and ideal to relax in. As the name suggests you sit upright in them rather than lie in them which means they are more comfortable for reading in or watching tv if you choose to hang one indoors.

One of the leading brands of hammock is Hennessy, which specialise in camping or hiking hammocks. These hammocks look quite different to your average hammock types and have a number of design features that make them better equipped for camping expeditions.
